Silencer's Sanctuary
Behind the Black Door, the family is at home.
Enter the storyWelcome home.
Near Grahtwood lies a sanctuary the Dark Brotherhood once gave up for lost, when the ground gave way beneath it and one wall fell into a vast cavern. The family has come back. The falls roar day and night, nobody raises their voice, and the banners of the Black Hand hang over the arches again.
They live here the way families do. They read, they eat together at long tables, they keep their stores and their poisons in good order. They also keep a chamber of papers pinned to the wall - names, roads, habits - a statue of Sithis beneath the falls, and a red window that lays its light across the floor like something spilled.
Of all the Black Hand, the Silencer is the most private: an assassin known only to the Speaker who gives the orders, and to no one else in the family. This is where such a one comes home between contracts - and where the next name will find them.
Behind the Black Door
A black hand on a letter left beside a sleeper. A voice behind a sealed door, asking a question only the family can answer. Every sanctuary of the Dark Brotherhood keeps its own Black Door and its own passphrase. This one keeps the old question of the Gold Coast - and behind it, a house given over to silence.
This is AhzidalThrones’ own vision of a sanctuary, built from the lore of the Dark Brotherhood.

The Five Tenets
The family keeps five Tenets, and the Wrath of Sithis falls on whoever breaks one:
- Never dishonor the Night Mother.
- Never betray the Dark Brotherhood or its secrets.
- Never disobey or refuse an order from a superior in the Brotherhood.
- Never steal from a Brother or Sister.
- Never kill a Brother or Sister.

The Silent Threshold
A banner, a few candles, and the silence.
The first hall gives nothing away: a Black Hand banner beneath a carved arch, a few candles, and somewhere ahead the sound of water. Anyone who got past the door is expected to know the rest. Anyone who does not will not be here long.
Hush. The family is sleeping.
The Chamber of Whispers
Names, roads, the habits of strangers.
Candles burn low at the statue's feet beside books left open. Papers are pinned to the wall: routes, faces, the daily habits of people who have no idea they are being studied. Somewhere in here a contract is taking shape. Nobody speaks above a whisper, and nobody needs to.
We know.
The Brotherhood’s invitation: a note left beside someone sleeping, a black handprint and two words. Whoever wakes to it has already been chosen.
The Halls by the Falls
Where the work is prepared.
Through the next arches the roar of water grows, and the halls turn practical: a brazier burning among barrels and bottles, crates and tables, tools laid out on boards. The family's work is quiet, but it is never careless. Nobody leaves this place unprepared.

The Waterfall Sanctum
Here the water speaks, and Sithis listens.
Great falls pour down around a platform of candles where Sithis sits and watches: the Dread Father, the Void itself, carved with many arms. Behind him a red window throws its pattern across the stone like something spilled. Every child of the family belongs to him in the end. If the Sanctuary has a heart, it beats here.

The Long Hall
Cold crystal at one end, candles at the other.
A vaulted hall runs on into the dark, blue crystal glowing between its columns. Candles and a skull on a side table mark the way. Footsteps carry a long way down here; a Silencer learns early to walk without them.
- Never dishonor the Night Mother.
- Never betray the Dark Brotherhood or its secrets.
- Never disobey or refuse an order from a superior in the Brotherhood.
- Never steal from a Brother or Sister.
- Never kill a Brother or Sister.
The Keeper's Archive
Every secret deserves a careful hand.
Shelves fill the alcoves around a working desk where someone is always reading. Between the books hang paintings of distant places: the world outside, kept at a safe distance. Every contract the family has taken is written down somewhere in here. Records outlive the people in them - that is rather the point.
The Black Sacrament
An effigy laid in a circle of candles, with nightshade among them: this is how the desperate ask the Brotherhood for a death, and the Night Mother hears. Light the five candles.
Sweet Mother, sweet Mother, send your child unto me, for the sins of the unworthy must be baptized in blood and fear.
The Vigil
Kneel, light a candle, say nothing.
Alcoves open off the halls, each with a few candles and a red banner, and one with a carpet leading to a low altar. They ask for nothing but a pause. Somewhere beyond them, the family says, the Night Mother listens - and once in a long while, she speaks to the one who listens back.
The Night Mother and her five children. Somewhere beyond them, they say, she listens.
The Refectory
Even shadows come home to supper.
Under a red tapestry the long tables are laid, candles burning between the cups, and a fire roars beside the counter. The Brotherhood calls itself a family, and families eat together - between the departures, and after the returns.
To the family.
The Alchemist's Watch
Cold light over careful work.
Blue light spills from the vessels on the shelves and from a glowing bench beneath them. The falls are close, and the air is wet and cold. Nightshade grows well in places like this. What is brewed here is brewed precisely, and it is rarely drunk by the one who brewed it.

The Hollow Below
The deepest place the family keeps.
Last of all, the cavern the old collapse broke open, seen from above: crystal columns rising through a shaft of pale light, and far below, a glow where the water gathers. The world goes quiet here, the way it does at the end of every contract. Hail Sithis.
Hail Sithis.
The Blade of Woe, the dagger the Black Hand passes from hand to hand. It drinks a little of every life it takes.
